Biobased economy

Professor Martin Kropff made a call for the establishment of a national institute for Biobased Economy. The new rector magnificus was speaking at the opening of the academic year on Monday 5 September. In a short lecture Kropff told that fossil fuel reserves are running out quickly and that there needs to be a quick change to a biobased economy. He has agreed to discuss the matter further at a later date with the secretary of state for Economic Affairs, Karien van Gennip. Van Gennip, who was also present at the ceremony, announced that Wageningen UR will start collaboration with the ECN (Energy research Centre of the Netherlands). The joint collaboration, which will chiefly involve A&F, will be called Bio2Value. / KV
