Jeanine Hermans
When I was browsing through the web I was shocked to learn from the WUB that Jeanine Hermans, Dean of International Students, is leaving WAU, at least for a period. Firstly, on behalf of the International Students Panel (ISP) and all international students, I wish to congratulate Jeanine for her new job and I sincerely wish her all the best in her future career
I personally worked with Jeanine during the brief period I was the President of ISOW and subsequently ISP President. Jeanine Hermans showed such a high commitment for international education and she assisted the two organisations in many ways. Her greatest advantage was that she was the linchpin of successive committees thereby providing continuity, so important for organisations whose membership and leadership is short lived
Jeanine helped us to understand the inner circles of the university administration and was always ready to advise on how to negotiate our ways in a culture that we felt unfamiliar with as foreigners. Without this help it certainly would have been more difficult to achieve what we have managed so far
Lastly, I wish to urge Jeanine Hermans to keep on the good work of creating an enabling environment and harmonious atmosphere for international education. As the world faces challenges which go beyond continental and cultural boundaries, there is dire need to reshape education to meet these international demands. The commitment of international education ought to be, to provide humanity with a better future and environment. This can only come about if international education transcends egoistic national and regional behavioural patterns and attempts to redress the legacy of social and economic imbalances this planet suffers. I have no doubt that Jeanine, being a product of such rich cultural interaction as at Wageningen Agricultural University, has learned a lot of this. I hope she carries this lesson far and wide in her new EU post
Rentmeesters
De titel en inhoud zouden dus moeten luiden: Helping people to serve a vulnerable world. Zulk een omschakeling is vreselijk moeilijk, maar niet onmogelijk. Misschien kan ons dat pas lukken door vele rampen en catastrofes heen
