More Than A Night Club

More Than A Night Club

Last Friday, February 3rd, International Club members elected former WAU foreign student from Ghana, Max Donkor, to the position of President of the Council. Spokesman and council member Francis Leo hopes that this move will signal a change from the difficult period of the last year, when misunderstandings and rumours damaged the reputation of the club. Addressing the concerns of foreign students at the WAU are now top priority. According to Leo, discussions with the university ISP [International Student Panel] last year raised several concerns, which have led to action. A new motor for the existing smoke filter system is being installed, and the ventilation system is being improved in response to demands from non smokers.

We also are discussing trying to diversify the character of the club, whereby a variety of atmospheres could be created in different rooms, so that they could be used for different purposes. We want to be more than a night club. One example might be to create a lounge room for reading or chatting, where you could maybe also eat something on a Sunday. Volunteers are going to be needed to keep the building open, but we are confident there will be interest from the members." The club also plans to renovate the building and replace the existing furniture. As the new council swings into action, Francis Leo hopes that the foreign student community in Wageningen will join the club and put their own ideas and energy into making the changes work to their benefit and enjoyment.
