'Their strange shapes, that is what makes them such fun'
'A warm greenhouse full of beautiful plants and a few nice little frogs.' That is Michiel Kotterman's slightly tongue-in-cheek description of his little patch of tropical rainforest in Heiloo. The environmental researcher at Imares IJmuiden has nearly thirty cubic metres of tropical vegetation boasting about 150 different species of orchid. 'Fascinating, weird plants that grow and bloom quite differently to ordinary house plants', he says. And right in the middle of the greenhouse he's going to have a little table and two chairs. 'A wish of my girlfriend's.'
