Meeting place for international students on its way

Meeting place for international students on its way

nce the old lab equipment has been demolished, the walls painted, a kitchen put in and some tables and chairs, the meeting place for international students will be a fact. It will involve a little more work than that, but since no major renovation or construction work is needed, the place will probably be ready before the summer. The building in question is Duivendaal 7, a stone's throw from WAU's main building.

Although, the idea for a meeting place goes back some years, last September a group of enthusiastic MSc students took the issue up again and brought it to the attention of the WAU management. Rector Karssen has been an enthusiastic supporter of the move. The main purpose is to have a home base where international students can drop by, read or have a chat with fellow students over a cup of coffee. The accommodation will officially fall under the responsibility of the Dean's Office for International Students, but the place will be run by students themselves. Besides serving as a meeting place it will also be used for other social and cultural activities. Furthermore, one of the rooms will be equipped in such a way that it also can be used by muslim students for their daily prayers.
