Zijlstra opens water technology centre

Standing at a lectern featuring bubbling water, State Secretary Halbe Zijlstra opened the expertise centre for water technology CEW in Leeuwarden yesterday.

Van Hall Larenstein applied sciences university and Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden are going to collaborate with the business world in the CEW to give a boost to the appliance of knowledge about water technology. The hope is that the quality of the colleges’ courses will improve through the inclusion of issues from the field in the degree programmes. The CEW’s focal areas include water-saving technologies, purification of waste water and the generation of energy from it, and recycling fertilizers from agriculture.

The centre’s office is housed at VHL in Leeuwarden. Director Ellen Marks and Wetsus director Cees Buisman are on the supervisory board.
