Who will be the best teacher in 2012?

The nominations for the Teacher of the Year Award have been announced. Vying for the title are Frits Claassen, Jan Willem van Groenigen, Ljiljana Rodic-Wiersma, Marthijn Sonneveld and Huub Savelkoul.

Huub Savelkoul (professor in Cell Biology & Immunology) and Jan Willem van Groenigen (university lecturer in Soil Quality) are no newcomers on the shortlist, put up by a jury of students. Savelkoul had been nominated four times before.  Groenigen is among the top five nominees for the second time. The other three lecturers are newcomers.
Frits Claassen is a university lecturer in Logistics Decisions & Information Science, and the only candidate from the social sciences section. Rodic-Wiersma (Environmental Technology) and Sonneveld (university lecturer in Land Dynamics) are in the Environmental Sciences section, just like Van Groenigen. Savelkoul is attached to Animal Sciences.
The winner of the TOTY Award will be announced on 17 January during the new year's reception of the student council. Each nominee will get 2500 euros, a certificate and a report from the jury. The winner will receive a replica of the 'The Tutor', the original of which graces the front of the Leeuwenborch building.
Gert Peek won the Teacher of the Year Award in 2011.
