Teacher Talks: ‘On my first day, the toilet had frozen shut’ (video)

In the run-up to the award ceremony of the education prize, five laureates of the Teacher of the Year Award tell about their life as lecturers. In the fourth and last episode, the focus is on their most memorable moments at the university.

In this last video, Dolf Weijers (Biochemistry), Jessica Duncan (Rural Sociology), Roel Dijksma (Hydrology and Quantitative Water Management), Gert Peek (Soil Geography and Landscape) and Jan den Ouden (Forest Ecology and Forest Management) speak of their most memorable moments at WUR.

For Duncan, Dijksma and Peek, that moment was – without any shadow of doubt – the moment they received the Teacher of the Year Award. For Weijers, the moment he held his inaugural address also left a very special memory. Weijers was appointed Professor holding a personal Chair in 2012. At the time, he was still the youngest professor in Wageningen. Jan den Ouden best remembers his very first working day as a PhD candidate, when the water of the toilet he had just visited turned out to be frozen.
