Sulphur

Millions of bacteria extract sulphur from waste water here at the Dutch village of Eerbeek.

This is how Industriewater Eerbeek BV treats up to 12 million litres of waste water from three paper factories. The sulphur conversion technique was developed in the early nineteen nineties by Wageningen professor Cees Buisman. Eerbeek was the first place it was used, but there are now more than 100 installations all over the world, reports associates magazine Wageningen World this week.
