Printing through copy machines

From September all printouts for students and university employees will be printed on copying machines.

The small computer printers in the computer rooms will disappear, and students will have to pay for the printouts they want. This will be done using the lecture pass (collegekaart), which has a magnetic strip that can be read by the copying machines and contains the information required to print the required document. The costs (4.5 cents per page) will then be automatically deducted from the student’s account. The same card and account will also be used for photocopying. Any credit outstanding on old copy cards can be transferred to the new accounts. According to Annet de Haas of the facilities management department, the current system of printing for free has cost the university twelve thousand euros a month.
