One World Week: celebrating internationalization

New festival a cross between WeDay and the AID.

Student societies and staff of Wageningen UR are organizing ‘One World Week’ between 14 and 17 May, to celebrate the university’s international character. This is the first time they have joined forces for an event of this kind. All sorts of activities will be run in the Forum and at the various students clubs, ranging from lectures to a pub quizz to salsa classes. All the activities are accessible to both students and staff. ‘It is meant to be a cross between the WeDay and the AID’, says instigator Astrid van den Heuvel, policymaker at Education and Research. Van den Heuvel copied the idea from the University of Warwick in England, which has been running a One World Week for years. ‘It is so nice.’ She has great expectations of the Week. ‘With 29,000 students, Warwick is a lot bigger than Wageningen. And their event is sponsored by companies. That developed over the years. But it could grow into something big here too.’ The whole One World Week programme can be found on the intranet and on Facebook.
