Entomologists celebrate 150th PhD

The Laboratory of Entomology celebrated its 150th PhD graduation in the study of insects last Tuesday, 13 April.

This probably makes the entomologists one of the highest scoring Wageningen research groups for PhD graduations. The 150th graduate was the South African Deidre Charleston, with her thesis entitled ‘Integrating biological control and botanical pesticides for management of Plutella xylostella’. Information from the PhD thesis data bank shows that two entomologists belong to the top ten list of PhD supervisors: Professor Joop van Lenteren has 58 PhD graduations to his name at number three; the late Professor Jan de Wilde is sixth on the list with 53 graduations.
