Antibiotics down at Sterksel

Sterksel experimental pig farm has managed to halve the amount of antibiotics given to sows and piglets this year, according to a bulletin on the farm's website.

It achieved this through strict hygiene measures. The number of days per year that the pigs were dosed with antibiotics was brought down from twelve to six. Streptococcal infections in particular were driven down through the extra hygiene.
