Only Cambridge Massachusetts, home of MIT, produced more new biotechnological knowledge in the last 20 years. Wageningen outstrips cities such as London, Seoul, Tokyo and Zurich.

Wageningen is the second most important city in the world when it comes to the generation of new biotechnology knowledge, say two Utrecht researchers who counted the publications in three major biotechnology journals between 1986 and 2008 and identified the competitive power of different regions.
