WUR partially has itself to thank for being in the new category of Times Higher Education (THE). WUR informed THE about the subfields in which there had been publications, such as health, nutrition and life sciences, along with the number of people working in those subfields. Until last year, WUR only informed the data provider about agriculture.

Calculations

Last year, WUR was not clear on that, causing the university to take a dive in the overall ranking. Publications about nutrition and life sciences, for example, were originally counted in that category. Last year, this was suddenly discontinued.

This year, however, WUR is on to the calculations. This has not only led to Wageningen recovering in the overall ranking, but also resulted in an 84th position in the new category.

Life Sciences

Wageningen still holds a high position in the subfield of Life Sciences: 20th place in the worldwide ranking. This is a drop of four places compared to last year, which is most probably also due to the new calculation method.

The ranking of THE is based on thirteen indicators, such as educational environment, the scope and reputation of research, influence in science through citations, level of internationality of research, the staff and students and the extent of knowledge transfer to industry and society.
