WSKOV on exchange to Spain

WSKOV, the Wageningen Student Choir and Orchestra Association, goes on tour abroad every five years. This year, they will take a different approach: an exchange programme. This weekend, the Spanish youth orchestra from Valladolid will be visiting Wageningen.

The nearly 80-old WSKOV has a tradition to go on tour every five years. In 2012, the orchestra visited Sweden and Denmark, so it was time to visit the sunny South, says Jaap Kerr, chair of the exchange committee. As the conductor of the orchestra speaks Spanish, the choice was easily made.

It turned out to be difficult to arrange rehearsal space and concerts in Spain, tells Kerr: ‘To make organising easier, we decided to contact a residing youth orchestra.’ After contact was made with the youth orchestra in Valladolid, the idea arose to invite them here as well.

The Spanish orchestra will be in Wageningen on 22 and 23 April. The members will appear on Saturday 22 April at 20:00 in the church on the Marktplein in the centre of Wageningen. ‘Admission is free and everyone is invited to come and listen.’ After this concert, IxESN will hold a Spanish-themed party in LUCA.

A summer tour to Spain is planned after this event in Wageningen. From 24 to 31 August, WSKOV will tour through Spain with a group of around 100 participants from both the choir and the orchestra. Of course, besides the concerts, there is a busy programme. After the rehearsals, there will be plenty of time for excursions and pub quizzes.

To fund the concert and rehearsal locations, WSKOV has started a crowdfunding project on voordekunst.nl.
