It will be at least another three months before it is possible for telephones used by student corridors to be connected to the Internet for VOIP.
The equipment works, but the little box that links the analogue telephone to the glass fibre cable is still not produced commercially. Once this can be installed all those living on a corridor will be able to phone using a wireless phone after punching in a PIN code. For the time being the regular KPN connection will be maintained. The special connection is required for the corridors, as the fire safety regulations prohibit the laying of cables in shared areas. About five hundred individual SSHW tenants have now gone over to VOIP.
