Almost half of the 18-strong workforce have to go. In most cases this will involve temporary contracts not being renewed. The main reason for the dismissals is the loss of funding from the pig-farming sector. Fewer private research contracts also means less public money through the Agri&Food top sector.
VIC Sterksel is downsizing
The Swine Innovation Centre (VIC) in Sterksel has to make major cutbacks. The Wageningen UR innovation centre is facing a fall in assignments from the pig industry now that the marketing board has gone.
