Two WUR students to compete at European Athletics Championship

Eva Hovenkamp and Nadine Visser will compete at the European Athletics Championship in Amsterdam next month. The Health and Society students are both in the Dutch team.

Heptathlon athlete Nadine Visser will run the 100 meter hurdles on the European Championship, her specialiazation. She was already guaranteed a place at the EC. She is the Dutch champion on the 60 and 100 meter hurdles. She finished 8th place at the World Heptathlon Championships in Beijing last year.

The Dutch Athletics Federation announced today that sprinter Eva Hovenkamp has been selected for the European Championship as well. The student who is in her first study year will be part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team. She normally runs the 100 and 200 meter sprint, but recently ran a noteworthy 400 meters. Her time was the fourth fastest in Dutch history and earned her a telephone call from the federation. She came in fifth in the 200 meters sprint at the Dutch Championship last weekend.

Amsterdam

The European Athletics Championship will take place in Amsterdam from July 6th until July 10th. The Netherlands will have the biggest team ever performing at an EC. A total of 54 Dutch athletes will be competing at the event. Including top athletes from the Netherlands Dafne Schippers en Churandy Martina.

Visser has also earned a ticket for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Eva Hovenkamp also has a chance to go to Brazil this summer, if she performs well at the European Championship.
