Researchers from Alaska can tell from someone’s hair how much cola they have drunk. They do it by measuring the levels of C13 in protein. This built-in carbon isotope turns out to be a usable biomarker for the sugars extracted from soft drinks. The method should expose the link between obesity and soft drinks. Because a lot of people lie about how much they drink.
Itch
American researchers have discovered the itch molecule. This neural conductor of itching is called Natriuretic polypeptide b (Nppb). The discovery brings a cure for chronic itching a bit closer. What we still need is something for switching off the itch reflex. Itching already?
IQ
The IQ test can be thrown in the bin. A visual test using moving black bars works just as well, American researchers at the University of Rochester have discovered.
