Teacher of the Year Award at Dies Natalis

Who is the best Wageningen teacher of 2016? Starting from today second and senior students can vote for their favourite teacher. This year is the first year that the winner will be revealed during the Dies Natalis in March, instead of during the new year’s reception of the student council.

The Wageningen University Fund is pleased with the new place for the award ceremony, Daniëlle Grashuis shares. ‘The Dies is a festive event, with many guests from inside and outside the university’, she explains. ‘Wageningen values a good lecturer, which this portrays. This stage gives the Teacher of the Year Award more cachet and the teacher receives the attention that they deserve.’

The change was consulted with the student council, Grashuis emphasizes. ‘The students thought it was a pity, but also understood that the prize deserves a bigger stage.’ Grashuis does hope that many students will attend the Dies, because it is ‘the prize that is awarded on behalf of the students’. ‘Luckily the Dies is celebrated in Orion this year, which makes it easier for students to pass by.’

The electronic polling will be opened until the 6th of November. Until then students can vote for teachers who they think belong to the top of Wageningen. After which the student jury determines the five best teachers, and the winner.

To show what the prize means for the winning teacher, the Wageningen University Fund has asked previous Teacher of the Year winners about their life after the prize. Noëlle Aarts, professor Strategic communication, tells about how proud she is to win the prize in 2015.
