Student dies after car accident

Machteld Klok, food technology student, was killed last weekend in a car accident during a traineeship in the United States. Miss Machteld was driving home in heavy rain after work at night. Her car went off the road due to unknown reasons and hit a tree.

Machteld had been an active member of rowing club Argo throughout her student life. In 2009, she joined its executive board as competition officer, where she was also board member and coach. She also sat on various committees in the student society Nicolas Appert. She was doing the final phase of her study and specialized in product design. She would be graduating in September and had also been asked to work as a trainee research assistant. ‘Machteld has blossomed during her student days and traineeship into a fantastic young woman who would be terribly missed by her many friends in Wageningen, Oneonta and Hattem, as well as her family,’ reads a message from her family. Argo has announced a period of mourning. A book of condolence has been opened at the society and in the Forum for those who wish to leave a message. A memorial service will be held at the start of next week in the Aula of the university.
