Prison sentence sought for rapist

The man from Renkum who tried to rape a Wageningen student last February should be sentenced to two years in jail, said the public prosecution service in an Arnhem court last week.

This was reported in the regional newspaper De Gelderlander. The student was cycling home after a party when the man pulled her off her bicycle on the Ritzema Bosweg. He dragged her into the bushes and tried to rape her. The girl fought him off and managed to escape on her bicycle. The offender's DNA was found on her jacket. The man is mentally retarded and has a record of sexual offences. The verdict will be announced next week.
