PhD model

The current PhD model is not suitable for development research, according to Dr. Tjeerd Jan Stomph, who spoke during a workshop in the WICC in Wageningen. To contribute to development, research will have to be multidisciplinary, conducted in cooperation with partners in the South and it will have to influence policy. All this requires more time than the four years currently allowed for PhD research, which means that the research contributes less to development cooperation than it potentially could.
