The winner will be rewarded with an iPad and a ‘certificate of excellence’. The awards will be presented on the 10th of November in the auditorium of the TU Delft.

To clarify, the PhD network explains the definition of a good supervisor. A good supervisor helps the PhD candidate to design a good planning of their PhD programme and answers questions within reasonable time. Furthermore, he will teach the PhD candidate skills such as critical thinking and clear communication. PhD students with a good supervisor have a higher than average chance of finishing the PhD programme and afterwards more easily take the next step in their careers.

In the past years interest groups have reported issues with the vulnerability of PhD students. In the Netherlands 28 percent do not reach the finish line. On this topic, Wageningen scores better than the national average, yet also the Wageningen PhD Council is worried. In 2014 the board warned that supervisors often have too little time for their PhD students.
