No Spinoza for Wageningen
Come Monday, the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) will announce the names of four researchers who will receive the prestigious Spinoza Prize. Wageningen won't be in the picture.
The years 2007, 2008 and 2009 saw Marcel Dicke, Willem de Vos and Marten Scheffer winning, one after the other, the Spinoza Prize, the highest research award in the Netherlands. That was remarkable because in the fifteen years preceding that, no Wageningen researcher had been honoured in this way. The series Dicke, De Vos and Scheffer will not have a sequel for the time being, NWO revealed in a telephone enquiry. Today, journalists of the trade press, university papers and regional newspapers called the NWO to find out if it is worthwhile for them to be present at the announcement in The Hague. 'It won't be worth your effort' was the answer to the question from Resource. NWO will announce the prize winners on Monday morning at nine thirty during the annual 'Bessensap' congress for science journalists.
