Mr Netherlands is a Wageningen student

When you think of Miss World you think of pretty women in bikinis and ‘world peace’. But did you know she has a male counterpart? Mr Netherlands is Wageningen student Demian Overduijn, and on 15 June he hopes to become Mr World.

The fourth year student of Biology got the phone call a couple of weeks ago: he was through to the last three. ‘Of what?’ he asked. He had been scouted for the competition through Facebook, and had been announced Mr Netherlands before the organization had even met him in the flesh. On 30 May he left for England to take part in the Mr World election, which goes on for two weeks.

As well as studying, the 24-year-old Wageningen man works as a model and teaches hiphop. He performed as a dancer on the X Factor, and is a passionate animal lover. The competition is not very big in the Netherlands, but it certainly brings a bunch of opportunities Demian’s way. In the past week he has been on Shownieuws, in the Telegraaf newspaper and on the Koen & Sandershow. Model agencies are queuing up for him, and for the next year he will be supplied with brand name clothing and accessories. If he wins he gets to travel around the world for a year with Miss World.
