More than two hundred employees of Wageningen University have signed a letter of protest against the introduction of a new career path policy, the tenure track system. The signatures will be presented to the Rector Magnificus Martin Kropff on 26 November.
Tenure track is proclaimed by Dr. de Boer as a 'hopeless system' which does not improve the quality of education and research. 'This system casts aside the principle of the chair groups, as people will only look out for themselves in order to meet the quality requirements. This will lead to chaos, which will impede education and the students most of all.'
De Boer is all for the university's introduction of stricter requirements. 'I can bring myself to work harder. But it mustn't be such that groups which have been assessed as good and excellent by international review panels now need to have their motions questioned. The executive committee indicates with the current requirements for tenure track: you are not up to the mark.'
