ISO for genebank

The Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands (CGN) now has an ISO certificate for its quality management. CGN director Dr Bert Visser received the certificate on 23 February, for which both the general management and the technical aspects of CGN are described and evaluated. This is necessary because the centre is legally responsible for the sperm collections of five farm animals and seed collections of twenty crops. The Ministry of Agriculture requires that the work of CGN is externally checked for quality. The CGN is the first genebank in Europe with a certificate. Other genebanks have already shown interest in the English language description of the centre’s work methods. / MW
