‘We always try to put in an element of fun,’ says Ruben Cornelissen of the Wageningen Beasts, the student strength training club which organizes the event. ‘Last year we did something with a car. This year we wanted to do something that would not only attract the hardcore weightlifters but others as well.’ A garden gnome has duly been acquired and tested, and on the day of the event it will be filled with cement.
