The movie that will be showing at the pool is Jaws, the iconic movie about a great white shark. The screening will be supported by sceneries, special effects, actors and divers. The spectators will have a choice of seats, both within and around the pool. ‘We have approximately 80 "seats" available that let you lie in the water on a swim ring and watch the movie from a heated pool. After the screening, there will be an afterparty in the leisure pool, with a DJ and an American minimarket with American snacks and gadgets’, tells Janse Heijn, former student at WUR and co-organiser of the event.

‘For the past few months, we have been building large sceneries, like the shark and the boat. We are currently finishing them up. We have planned two test sessions before the actual screenings take place, to check if everything works properly’, tells Heijn. He has founded the entertainment agency Tipeaux together with theatre maker Tim Horsting. The Dive-In Cinema is their biggest event yet.

‘It is a huge technical job, because a lot will be happening during the movie. There will be people above and under water, people taking care of the projection, people taking care of lighting and sound. However, I am not losing sleep over it yet. We are well on schedule’, Heijn informs.

To promote the event, we put a shark fin in several small ponds and lakes around Wageningen

‘To promote the event, we put a shark fin in several small ponds and lakes around Wageningen. Many people thought we had put fins everywhere, but the idea was for the fin to disappear and pop up elsewhere. We had quite a few positive reactions. It was quite a bother – taking a canoe to the water to put the fin in, but it was a fun campaign’, says Heijn.

Each show will start at 19.30, with the movie screening itself commencing at 20.30. The afterparty will start around 23.00.
