First nominated Teacher of the Year 2016: André van Lammeren

The first nominee for the annual Teacher of the Year Award is known: teacher of Plant cell biology André van Lammeren.

Resource surprised Van Lammeren during the practicum Structure and function of plants, in Forum. While dozens of students were cheering loudly it was announced that Van Lammeren was in the race to become best teacher of 2016.

Van Lammeren, who won the prize in 2010 and was nominated multiple times, was ‘amazed’ by the nomination. The popular teacher has recently retired and no longer gives lectures. Nevertheless, he is still involved in a couple of subjects. ‘It is quite special that you found me here’, he says to Teun Fiers, jury member of the teacher of the year election.

The jury of the Teacher of the Year praises Van Lammeren for his enthusiasm. In addition, because of the many years of experience, he has managed to develop his teaching material to perfection. ‘We are proud that he not only managed to reach such a high level, but that he has also managed to retain this level for years, until the end.’

Van Lammeren calls his nomination for the best teacher ‘grandiose’. ‘I think that it is motivating for students to be able to make such a choice, and for teachers to be chosen.’

The coming days Resource will also announce the other four nominees for the Teacher of the Year Award 2016.
