Veerman, former agriculture minister and professor Sustainable Rural Development in Wageningen, will become the chairman of the workgroup on Agricultural Markets of the European Commission, reports the Magazine Boerderij. The Agricultural Market Task Force deals with the crises that several agricultural sectors are now facing. The workgroup will, besides other things, look for opportunities to give farmers a better position in the food chain.
Agricultural Commissioner Phil Hogan of the European Commission announced the appointment on 14 December. He praised Veerman as farmer, former agricultural minister and ‘professor at the Wageningen University, the best agricultural university in the world. Veerman brings his knowledge and expertise and his stature to this important workgroup”, Hogan said.
