Dutch universities continue to do well in the World University Rankings published by the British research bureau QS. Once again, 11 of the universities are in the top 200.

Wageningen went up from position 161 to position 150. QS published the rankings for particular fields earlier this year, in May. Then Wageningen was in second place in the world among universities specializing in agriculture and fisheries, and in 10th place worldwide for environmental sciences. In the rankings that have now been published, the larger and more comprehensive universities score well and smaller specialist universities come off relatively poorly. The Dutch university that does best is the University of Amsterdam, in 58th place. QS used to create the rankings for the prominent British magazine Times Higher Education, but they went their separate ways in 2010.
