Donations for burning Indonesia

Indonesian students collected more than one thousand euro during the ‘charity concert’ in Forum last Monday. The money will go to the fight against the forest fires that have been afflicting Indonesia for months.

The students played music, danced and made postcards to collect money. With the money they will support three projects: a shelter for orangutans, an organization that provides medical supplies, such as masks against the smoke and an organization that voluntarily offers education to students in the affected areas.

The forest fires in Indonesia are the worst in years. There have been many deaths and the smoke is causing respiratory problems. Children suffer most. For months they have not been able to go to school and many of them have a large educational disadvantage. Classes for the graduating students are now essential, Windy Mulia Liem explains the choice for this cause. The choice for the organization of the orangutans is also logical. Large areas of the habitat, and that of many other special wild animals, have been destroyed by the flames.

Due to the extreme droughts the Indonesian authorities cannot control the fires. Moreover many fires in the soil simmer on and constantly flare up again. ‘Luckily it is finally raining’, says Windy. But the help is still needed, because the health problems will continue for a longer period of time, to say nothing of the recovery period of the huge areas of destroyed forest.

You can transfer money for the victims of the forest fires until the 8th of November. More information.
