Atlas cleared as suspicious package received

At about 11 o'clock yesterday morning Atlas was evacuated in response to a suspicious package. One suspect is being detained.

The small package was delivered to the reception desk. The police were immediately alerted, after which the building was evacuated. Some 400 employees were accommodated in Gaia and Lumen. Since the start of this year, the Wageningen UR Executive Board has been based in the Atlas building.

Update 11.26 Several police vehicles and ambulances are parked outside the Atlas building. The Fire Service is also present.
Update 12.12 According to Omroep Gelderland, the regional news broadcast service, one suspect is being detained: the person who delivered the small package.
Update 12.50 The building has been given the all-clear.
This is not the first time that a suspicious package has been delivered to Wageningen UR. In 2001, in the wake of the attacks on the Twin Towers in New York, letters were sent to the former Administration Building. Amid fears of anthrax, a number of students were quarantined for three hours. Two years ago a bomb threat was received. In that instance, animal activists were involved.
