Salad bar pretty free from harmful bacteria

This is apparent from research carried out by Rikilt and Food & Biobased Research (F&B). Their findings were published last month in the Journal of Food Protection.

The composition of the intestinal bacteria may also account for a person's obesity. This is the contention of Wageningen microbiologists and colleagues from the University of Amsterdam end January in the scientific journal Diabetologia.

Knowledge institute to amend text in beer guide

5:50u 27 January 2010 - 'A storm in a beer glass', is the response given byFrans Kok, chairman of the Knowledge Institute for Beer, after it's been chided by the Dutch Institute for Alcohol Policy (STAP) for misrepresenting advice about alcohol consumption given by the Health Council of the Netherlands. In any case, the knowledge institute will amend the text in its beer guide.

Fake meat is too far removed from the real thing, but it is unfamiliarity with such new products in particular that is preventing people from putting them in their shopping trolleys.

Poor communication by organic food sector about risks

This is the contention of Ivonne Rietjens, professor of the Toxicology Department, and researchers of the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA) in the coming issue of Food Additives and Contaminants.

Fish fatty acids don’t make you cleverer or happier

This is the conclusion drawn by Ondine van de Rest in the thesis for which she will get her PhD from the Department of Human Nutrition on 18 December.
