Record number of Wageningen ‘top masters’ in Guide to Higher Education

Out of the 27 Wageningen master’s programmes, 23 have been given the title of ‘top programme’ in the Guide to Higher Education Masters 2017 that was published today. That is seven more than last year.

The Guide to Higher Education annually publishes how students and experts assess university master’s programmes. Wageningen has been doing quite well compared to other universities, but this year’s 23 top master’s programmes are an absolute record. The Guide to Higher Education gives programmes that score 76 points or more the title of ‘top programme’. According to the guide, education in Wageningen is ‘still intensive, personal and both challenging and application-oriented. In this guide, Wageningen scores above average in all areas – even excellently more often than not.’

The very best master’s programmes
Wageningen is the only university to have three programmes in the top 20 of the ‘very best master’s programmes’: Plant Sciences (92), International Land and Water Management (90) and Geo-information Science (90).

The Wageningen master’s programmes that did not receive the title of top programme are Environmental Sciences, Aquaculture and Marine Resource Management, Applied Communication Science and Landscape Architecture and Planning. The latter programme received the lowest score but is on a rise. The programme received 64 points this year; this was 60 last year and 58 in 2015.

The Guide to Higher Education, which is published by the Centre for Information on Higher Education (Centrum Hoger Onderwijs Informatie, C.H.O.I.), bases the scores of the master’s programmes on the students’ assessments of the National Student Surveys (Nationale Studenten Enquête) of 2014 through 2016, as well as the expert opinions of the national visitation committee Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders NVAO until mid-January 2017.
